The festivals, and the elaborate rituals followed by the festivity and celebrations mark the occasions to spot the talents and skills of many peopleThese traditions help to show case the latent potential of ordinary faces beside fostering the social peace. Such festivals are common to the entire Hindus whereas certain festivals and celebrations belong to a particular region or locality. A few examples will elicit the above idea of spotting the hidden talents.

1. Dasshera festival  During the festival period of 10 days, many households put up a Kolu (to showcase the various dolls and toys of that household) and invite the neighbors, and friends and relatives to see their decorations. During such Kolus, many people assemble and the girls generally sing the devotional songs in praise of the Hindu Gods. The guests will be given gifts (this gift will be different each day) when they leave the assemblyIt is during this ritual, the best singers are exposed to the other people and the outer world.

In some regions of Northern India,  a grand Dance festival and fashion show also organized to expose and appreciate the best minds in dancing and fashion designing. The name of the event is Dandya dance festival: it's very popular in Gujarat. Many participants see this event as a gateway to getting a chance to enter the entertainment industry like movies, TV shows, etc..

2. Onam festival This is a festival of Kerala stateEveryyear, during the festivala Vallamkali (Boat race) is held in the backwaters of a local town Alleppey. The best talent is identified from the top finishing teams. There is an opportunity from here to make it to the National or International competitions.

3. Pongal or Harvest festival This is celebrated by all Hindus but the name changes in different places and regions. But the festival bears a specialty in Tamilnadu where Jallikattu , a contest of who tames a ferocious bull,  is held every yearThough criticism rages against such risky sport, the event is carried down over the generations of the local populace. The most courageous and strong persons can be located during this annual affair. But this sport is held even during some other local celebrations.

Another sport to display the talent of  male members is held in the name of Rekhla pandhyam( Bullock-cart or Horse-cart race) in the interior parts of southern Tamilnadu and Andhrapradesh. Here the power to control the bulls and the speed of the cart decide the winner.  Again this is to showcase the skill and talent only.
