Peace and Friendship

Peace is fostered and multiplied in several ways of Hinduism.
Peace is made as a way of living happily.

Festivals or Special worships are many to make the people come together and exchange the pleasantries and goodwill among the members of the society. Festivals and rituals are celebrated almost every month in Hindu religionThe most common festivals are listed below.
  1. Pongal or Sankranthi or Harvest festival
  2. Maha Sivarathri
  3. SriRamanavami
  4. Vinayaka Chaturthi
  5. Sri Krishna Jayanthi
  6. Sarawathi Pooja and Ayudha Pooja
  7. Deepavali
  8. Vaikunda Ekadesi
Besides the above, Ekadesi, Sankatachathurthi, Sashti and Pournami and Ammavasa are the special days when many Hindus undertake fasting and worship the God with prayers to bless with good things in life. During these poojas also, the devotees visit the temples when they get the occasions to meet the friends and relatives and also share the latest developments around them. 

Personal celebrations arise when one gets married or becomes a parent or grandparent .
Also when a person gets a job or a promotion. Likewise, the Bon voyage or buying a new house.
Generally, the lifetime events like wedding, childbirth and new House are considered as auspicious and the gift of the God. Hencecelebrated with pomp and gaiety to make such occasions as memorable as possible depending on the financial strength of the hosts.

During these celebrations, the kith and kin and the friends and neighbors are invited to share their joy and happiness. Gifts and return gifts are presented to mark the celebration.

Community Festivals and gatherings are common occurrence. The classic examples are the Kumbhmela, Jallikattu (Bull Taming ),Temple Kumbhabisheks(Consecration of New temple or renovated temple), Onam Boat race, etc.. to name a few. There are many festivals which are location specific like Deepam Festival(of Thiruvannamalai), Music assembly of Thiruvaiaru, Ganesh Pooja in Mumbai  etc.,.

These also provide the scope for fostering peace and friendship among the people practicing Hinduism.

These festivals and other celebrations have become the right opportunity to make the all the sections of the people ,irrespective of their religion, caste or creed, realize the happiness of being one family.

Lively association alone produces moralityjustice, compassionsympathylovetolerance, equanimity, and many other qualities that toughen and train character, and in turn,  mold the human personalityCulture is the result of co-mingling of the hearts and heads.
